Let’s Talk About: Go Back Couple Korean Drama

Let’s Talk About: Go Back Couple

Go Back Couple was released way back October 13, 2017; just a couple of days before it’s 3rd anniversary. I decided to re-watch this drama again because I saw a couple of clips posted in Facebook and it makes me missed this drama. I’ve already seen numbers of Korean drama pages and bloggers who writes reason why fans must watch this dram. But for me, instead of giving you reasons why this drama is worth your time, we will talk about deeply what makes this drama very special, heartwarming, and lovely.

This drama focuses on a 14 year married couple, but has been together for 18 years since they were in college. Both of them unconditionally love each other where to the point that they cannot imagine parting ways. But when time passes by where love does not seems like the only way to survive each day and reality struck them both, they were starting to lose and forget the reason why they live and married and with each other.

While divorce is the only escape for them both, on the other hand Choi Bando who was also devastated in work where he has to put down all his pride for the sake of his family, it makes me really sad and bad to see him devastated without being able to explain himself and had no other choice but to agree on divorce when his wife said she was very unhappy in her life. The point here is that, Bando is a great guy and maybe yes sometimes he is not a perfect husband for Jin Joo, but as a man and the head of the family who also has to keep everything to himself even though it may not be necessary because breaking down in-front of his wife will make her sad, and he doesn’t want that to happened. While for Jin Joo who has a lot of regrets and what if’s in doing something much more amazing in her youth, she can’t help but gets stressed over it especially when she also had to take care of their very young son. I’m a woman myself and I get to understand how Jin Joo feels, she was pretty back then. She was loved and appreciated, but when time passes by and age is not just a number for her but also it changes her appearance and mind, it is really difficult and sad to think that “there may be a lot of more things I can do back then, but why did I held myself back then?”

Imagine putting yourself in this situation, going back to the past to change everything is a very good plan, that is if going back in forth through time is possible. But miracles do happen isn’t it? When two of them brought theirselves back in the past. Yes! It’s a chance for them to change their destiny. It is a chance for Jin Joo on the other hand to meet her deceased mother. It is a chance for them to be back and live the life they really want.

Finally when both of them woke up young again thinking it might be a dream but for Jin Joo who longed for her mother’s presence for a very long time, it is way more than just a blessing, in those times it is her everything. Definitely her scenes crying in front of her mother will always be the heartbreaking part for me. Imagine being unable to say goodbye to your mother and it torments you for a couple of years and finally seeing her even in your dreams is a huge blessing. That’s how Jin Joo feels and maybe way more than that.

For Choi Bando who lived young again on the other hand, decides to find his first love and change his destiny. To be honest I don’t know how to react on his personal motives or plans but we cannot blame him. Maybe life in the future is unimaginably tormenting and hard for him also that it made him decide to himself that changing his past is important.

Back in college again, they woke up still in the same timeline, young and has free wills to change their future. But going back there are thing and people who never changed, their friends, their second lead lovers, their memories. How amazing can that be, You were able to foresee your friends future in 18 years? It’s definitely fun especially you can be able to prevent on what happened from the past. Reminiscing those times again with your friends, when you were young, dumb, and definitely free is always the best feelings of all.

Never forget the funny and crazy friends of Bando, Ahn Jae Woo and Go Dok Jae. This two spices up the comedy more and made us laugh a lot especially Dok Jae.

Ma Jin Joo and her squad will always be iconic. Refreshing 3-group people, from Chun Sul the innocent and baby to Yoon Boreum, the free spirit squad member. It always amaze me how different people can be friends and can utilize the bond of friendship despite their differences.

Talking about change of feelings, I love how this drama did not show us second leads that we will hate. But they showcased us second leads that we might consider ending up with our leads. Choi Bando second lead love interest is Min Se Young, his first love. I love how her character works, she’s innocent, sincere, and so cute! Her chemistry with Choi Bando is also amazing that thinking if they’d ended up with each other, I would not mind.

Love-Jealous relationship will not be perfect with Bando x Se Young love interest only, on the other party we also have the charismatic and hot campus sunbae Jung Nam Gil. He’s a senior of Ma Jin Joo, he always shows cold, snob, but charismatic feels in this entire story but undeniably likes Jin Joo a lot. It just make me so sad that he did not end up with Jin Joo. You can see in his eyes how much he likes her, and on how comfortable he is with her. Every time Jin Joo is crying all alone, he was there at her back, he may not be able to show her but in any ways I know that his character wants to comfort her.

Two of them may find new happiness from different people. Two of them can change their future, but what does this drama wants to show us?

For me, if only time can brought us back in the past in order to clear the misunderstandings, fill the mishaps, comfort the uncomforted hearts of our partners, it’ll really be amazing. But overall this drama wants to tell us that we should never take for granted the memories and small details of efforts our partners or soon to be partners did for us. Marriage is not a simple branch in life, it’s a responsibility that each one holds. Because time is uncontrollably constant and will never be changed, another thing this drama tells us is that if we forget how the first time we fell in love to this person, remember the reason why you decided to love her/ him. If you can’t bring time to the past bring yourself to the past through your memories. Life is always full of hurdles and difficulties, but that’s how it works and if we will let the hardships control us, then in the end it’ll always be us who will suffer.

Going back to the drama, when both realized that they loved each other when they are not in each other’s arms, they also get to remember their precious child. But for Choi Bando who choose to let his wife live in that time and gave up his son, I don’t know what to feel. I feel so sad thinking that he’ll give up his son to make up and to see Jin Joo happy again with her mother. I feel heartbroken for his sacrifice and to his promises that he may never fulfill for his son.

This drama showcased different kinds of love. Friendship, personal intimate relationship, unrequited love, young love, family, and the highlight of them all, the love of a mother. Ma Jin Joo herself is a mother and even though life’s been so hard to her and dreaming of bringing back time, it always occur the love of a mother in her heart. Yes, it’s a great chance to live young again, see her deceased mother, change her future, date more, do clubbing, and such. But after all, we cannot change the fact that she loves her son a lot to the point that it can make her cry all alone every single time.

A child can live without it’s parents, but a parent can’t live without its child

Eun Sook, Jin Joo’s mother

In the end, both are parents who will die for their child than to live and change their own futures. Rather than changing on what’s ahead of them, living with it, clear all bad things that happened, and find theirselves again, this is what this drama wants to show us. Live life even when in you are in difficult situations, never forget the love you shared with each other, never take for granted the memories and efforts of one another, and most especially cherish the time even in bad that both of you shared. Because that’s how marriage, that’s how love works.

Honey let’s go home
